En voilà une sortie CD incroyable que celle célébrant les 50 ans de Woodstock.
Evénement musical mythique, il fallait un autre événement que pour célébrer son demi siècle et pour ce faire, on ne s’est pas moqué de nous avec une compilation composée de 10 cd !
Oui, WOODSTOCK – BACK TO THE GARDEN – 50th ANNIVERSARY EXPERIENCE contient 162 titres sur 10 CDs et constitue la première édition comprenant tous les artistes présents au festival.
32 artistes dont Joan Baez, The Band, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone et The Who enfin réunis.
Le long chemin vers la reconstruction audio du festival a démarré par la recherche des 60 bandes multi-pistes enregistrés par Eddie Kramer et Lee Osborne et de la centaine de prises capturées par la console. L’édition de ces bandes – dont certaines avaient été coupées, mal référencées ou perdues – a pris, dans certains cas, plusieurs années de travail.
Le contenu audio de cette compilation ne propose pas que de la musique : il permet également d’entendre les voix de ceux qui y étaient. Par chance, les micros étaient éparpillés sur le site du festival en capturant les discussions des roadies sur leurs repas, les spectateurs demandant les scores des derniers matches de baseball et le discours galvanisant de Max Yasgur adressé à tous ceux qui s’étaient rassemblés sur son terrain.
On découvre aussi la longue série d’annonces lancées depuis la scène par le stage manager John Morris et le chef des éclairages Chip Monck, les MCs improvisés du festival car personne n’avait songé à engager un présentateur officiel. Dans ces nouvelles éditions, nous pouvons les entendre prendre la parole entre deux chansons en évoquant la perte de clés ou en invitant les festivaliers à se méfier de “l’acide bleu.” Le dernier disque de BACK TO THE GARDEN contient des enregistrements annexes et des extraits audio dont l’emplacement n’a pu être restitué dans la chronologie du festival.
Vous l’aurez compris, cette compilation est une chance unique de revivre ou de vivre le festival tel qu’il a pu l’être à l’époque et comprendre enfin ce qui a fait la légende !
