Avec un message tendance Metoo comme quoi elle n’est pas le jouet des hommes, déclarant clairement le pouvoir aux femmes, Netta avait de bons arguments pour réussir. Mais ce qui a aussi permis à la jeune femme de gagner est que contrairement aux autres chansons à messages de cette année dont celui de la France, Toy était en anglais, moderne et rythmé, soit une formule très efficace.
